Who makes Bosch batteries and what they are known for
Bosch is the German automotive supplier behind a large share of the electrical parts in modern cars. Its car batteries for European applications are produced by Clarios, the same manufacturer that builds Varta, and in some regions by other partner factories, so the country on the label can vary. The range is organised by number, which makes it easy to tell which battery suits which electrical load.
Bosch in UAE heat
The S4 and S5 use calcium alloy plates in a sealed, maintenance-free case, which keeps water loss low compared with older serviceable batteries. The S5 A is an AGM with the acid held in glass mat, so there is no free liquid to evaporate. High under-bonnet temperatures still age any battery, and a battery left partly discharged in the heat ages faster.

What is the difference between Bosch S4 and S5?
Both are sealed, maintenance-free conventional batteries. The S5 offers higher cold cranking current and more capacity in the same case size, which helps cars with large engines or many electrical consumers. For a standard car with modest equipment the S4 does the job.
Is the Bosch S5 A the same as an AGM battery?
Yes. The S5 A is the AGM line in the Bosch range. The acid is absorbed in glass mat between the plates, so the battery is sealed and spill-proof. It is the type to fit when the original battery in the car is marked AGM.
Where are Bosch car batteries made?
It depends on the size and the market. Bosch batteries for European cars are produced by Clarios, and other regions are served by partner factories. The country of manufacture is printed on the label, and our technician can show it to you before fitting.
Can I put an S4 in a car that had an AGM battery?
No. A car designed around AGM charges and cycles the battery in a way a conventional S4 is not built for, and start-stop may stop working. Replace AGM with AGM. If the car had a conventional battery, moving up to S5 or AGM is fine.
