Battery technology

Flooded or maintenance-free batteries across Lancer, Attrage, Mirage, ASX, Pajero and L200. Versions with Auto Stop and Go need an EFB or AGM battery made for repeated restarts. The Outlander PHEV has a separate 12V auxiliary battery alongside its drive battery, and it can go flat like any other.

Fitting and registration

Under the bonnet with a top bar clamp on almost every model; on the Outlander PHEV the 12V battery is in the rear load area. No registration. Expect to reset the clock, radio presets and one-touch windows. Small models have short cables, so the terminal positions must match the original.

Which battery fits a Mitsubishi Attrage?

The Attrage uses a small JIS battery, and the tray does not take a larger case. The safest way to match it is the code printed on the old battery. Send us a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we bring the same size with the correct terminal layout.

Is a Mitsubishi battery change a roadside job?

Yes, on almost every model. The battery is under the bonnet, held by a simple clamp, and no coding is needed. The technician tests the old battery, fits the new one, then checks the alternator output. The Outlander PHEV takes longer because its 12V battery is at the rear.

My Pajero battery keeps going flat. Do I need a new one?

Not always. A battery that keeps going flat can be worn out, but it can also be an alternator that is not charging or something drawing current while parked. We test the battery, the charging voltage and the parked drain, and tell you which one it is before any replacement.

Can I use a normal battery on a Mitsubishi with Auto Stop and Go?

It is not a good idea. Stop-start systems restart the engine many times per trip, and a standard flooded battery is not built for that. It will wear out early and the system will switch itself off. Fit the EFB or AGM type the car came with.
