How Ford cars treat their batteries in the UAE

Battery technology

Trucks and SUVs without stop-start use flooded batteries in American BCI group sizes or DIN sizes, depending on where the model was built. Auto start-stop versions of the F-150, Explorer, Expedition and Edge use AGM; smaller stop-start cars may use EFB. Keep the same technology the car left the factory with.

Fitting and registration

Under the bonnet across the range, but access differs: open and easy on the F-150 and Mustang, tucked behind the air box or under the cowl on some Edge and Explorer years. The negative clamp goes on the sensor stud, not the body of the sensor. A BMS reset with a scan tool follows the fit.

What is a Ford BMS reset and is it necessary?

The Battery Monitoring System tracks battery age and state of charge. A reset tells it a new battery is fitted. Without it the car may keep limiting stop-start and shutting accessories down early. The system can relearn slowly on its own, but a scan tool reset is the reliable way.

Why does my Ford say System Off to Save Battery?

The car has measured a low state of charge and is switching off the screen and accessories to protect its ability to start. It appears on healthy batteries after long use with the engine off, and frequently on ageing ones. A battery test shows which case you have.

Where do I connect jump leads on a Ford with a battery sensor?

Positive goes to the battery positive terminal. Negative goes to the marked earth point or bare metal on the body or engine, not directly on the negative battery post. Connecting at the post bypasses the sensor, so the monitoring system does not see the charge going in.

Can I put a standard battery in a Ford with auto start-stop?

No. Start-stop Fords are charged in a way that suits AGM or EFB batteries and they restart the engine many times per trip. A standard flooded battery wears out quickly under that use. Replace with the technology printed on the original battery.
