How Lexus cars treat their batteries in the UAE

Battery technology

Petrol models such as the LX, GX, ES and IS use maintenance-free flooded or AGM batteries, depending on year and specification. Hybrids (the h models) use a 12V auxiliary battery, commonly AGM with a vent tube when it is mounted in the boot or under the load floor. Replace like with like: a vented position needs a vented battery.

Fitting and registration

LX and GX batteries are under the bonnet. On saloons the battery is often hidden under a plastic cover at the back of the engine bay, and on many hybrids and some LS versions it is in the boot. No registration is needed, but windows, sunroof and steering memory may need reinitialising after the change.

Where is the battery on a Lexus hybrid?

The 12V auxiliary battery on many Lexus hybrids is in the boot or under the load floor, not under the bonnet. Most also have a jump-start terminal in the engine bay fuse box, so the car can be powered up without emptying the boot. We confirm the position by model and year.

Why did my Lexus battery die while I was travelling?

Security, keyless entry and memory modules draw a small current all the time. Over two or three weeks in a hot car park that can empty a battery that is already ageing. A jump start gets you moving, then a test shows whether the battery will recover or needs replacing.

Does a Lexus need battery registration?

No. Lexus does not use battery registration in the way some German makes do. What you may need is to reinitialise the one-touch windows and sunroof, and reset the clock. Our technician does those checks with you before leaving and confirms the charging voltage.

Can I use a regular battery for a Lexus hybrid auxiliary?

Use the same type the car came with. Where the auxiliary sits inside the boot or cabin, it is normally a sealed AGM with a vent tube that carries gases outside. A standard flooded battery in that position is not suitable. We bring the vented AGM type and reconnect the tube.
