Later BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.

Sizes are European DIN. Some large models carry a second battery, and recent 48V mild-hybrids have an additional 48V battery alongside the 12V one.

On nearly all models the battery is in the boot, under the floor on the right side, with a vent tube and a safety terminal on the positive cable. After fitting, the new battery is registered with a diagnostic tool. If the capacity or type differs from the original, the car also needs coding to the new values.
