The Fiat Croma and its 12V battery
On older Fiat Croma model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.
The 500 uses a small European-size battery, and the tray does not accept a larger case. Versions without Start&Stop take a conventional flooded battery. Start&Stop versions of the 500, 500X and Tipo are built with EFB or AGM and a battery sensor on the negative terminal. The Ducato van uses a much larger battery sized for diesel cranking.
On the 500, 500X, Tipo, Linea and Doblo the battery is under the bonnet with fair access. On the Ducato it is under the cab floor in the footwell, beneath a panel, with jump points under the bonnet. No dealer coding is normally needed. On Start&Stop cars the sensor relearns after the car has rested locked for some hours. If a 500 clicks but will not crank with a good battery, the engine earth strap is the next thing to check.
