Later Renault Kangoo model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.

On older Renault Kangoo model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.

Models without Stop and Start use a conventional flooded battery in a European DIN case. Models with Stop and Start are normally built with an EFB battery, and some higher-specification engines with AGM. We read the label on the fitted battery and replace like with like, because a plain flooded battery in a Stop and Start Renault tends to fail early and the system stops working.

The battery is under the bonnet on the Renault models common here, usually inside a plastic cover or box that has to come off first. Later cars carry a current sensor on the negative terminal, so jump leads and chargers go on the earth point, not on the sensor. Most Renaults do not need a tool-based registration, but the car relearns the new battery only after it has been left locked and asleep for a few hours. Older radios may ask for a security code after the battery is disconnected.
