The BYD F5 and its 12V battery

Later BYD F5 model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.

Many current BYD models (Atto 3, Seal, Han, Song Plus, Sealion 7 and others) use a compact 12V lithium iron phosphate battery made by BYD, with its own protection electronics. It is not a like-for-like swap with a lead-acid battery: the size, mounting and charging strategy are different. Older petrol BYDs and some earlier models use an ordinary lead-acid battery. We identify which one your car has before quoting any job.

The 12V battery is usually under the bonnet beneath a plastic cover, though position differs between models. A flat 12V battery can often be boosted from an external supply so the car wakes and its DC-DC converter takes over charging. If a lithium 12V battery has failed, the correct part comes through BYD and is normally fitted by the dealer. Lead-acid equipped BYDs can be replaced on site like any other car, with no registration.
