The Mazda CX-60 covers model years 2022-2026. Even over a short run the battery can differ by engine and trim, so we confirm the year and the battery label before setting off.

Later Mazda CX-60 model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.

Cars without i-stop use a conventional flooded battery in a Japanese (JIS) size. Cars with i-stop need a battery built for idle-stop duty, normally EFB in the JIS idle-stop sizes. i-ELOOP versions add a capacitor that stores braking energy and are stricter still about battery type. The CX-60 and CX-90 six-cylinder cars are 48V mild hybrids with a 12V battery alongside. Not every GCC-spec Mazda has i-stop, so we check the car, not the brochure.

On most models the battery is in the engine bay, on the left, under a plastic cover with an air intake duct running over it that has to come off first. Older MX-5 generations (NA and NB) carry it in the boot. A current sensor sits on the negative terminal. After a change on i-stop cars the battery management needs a reset or relearn, otherwise the amber i-stop light flashes. On i-ELOOP cars the capacitor system is left alone at the roadside.
