What to know
The Mazda Flair Wagon and its 12V battery
Later Mazda Flair Wagon model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.
Cars without i-stop use a conventional flooded battery in a Japanese (JIS) size. Cars with i-stop need a battery built for idle-stop duty, normally EFB in the JIS idle-stop sizes. i-ELOOP versions add a capacitor that stores braking energy and are stricter still about battery type. The CX-60 and CX-90 six-cylinder cars are 48V mild hybrids with a 12V battery alongside. Not every GCC-spec Mazda has i-stop, so we check the car, not the brochure.
On most models the battery is in the engine bay, on the left, under a plastic cover with an air intake duct running over it that has to come off first. Older MX-5 generations (NA and NB) carry it in the boot. A current sensor sits on the negative terminal. After a change on i-stop cars the battery management needs a reset or relearn, otherwise the amber i-stop light flashes. On i-ELOOP cars the capacitor system is left alone at the roadside.

Before we come
What to send for a Mazda Flair Wagon battery
- Your location pin, the road and which direction you were heading
- The model year of your Mazda Flair Wagon (it is on the registration card)
- A photo of the label on the battery fitted now, if you can reach it
- What the car is doing: slow crank, clicking, nothing at all, or a warning light

How it works
From your location pin to a car that starts
Four steps, and you know what is happening at each one. Nothing is fitted until the battery has been tested.
- 1
Share where the car is
Send a location pin with the road name, direction of travel and the nearest exit or landmark. In a basement, add the level and bay.
- 2
Confirm the car details
Make, model and year, plus a photo of the battery label if you can. That is how the right battery gets loaded.
- 3
Get an arrival estimate
We check access and technician availability, then tell you when to expect us before anyone sets off.
- 4
Test, then jump or replace
The technician tests the battery, explains the reading and carries out a jump start or a replacement. The car is started before he leaves.

Questions
Mazda Flair Wagon battery questions
Short answers to what drivers ask before and during a battery call-out.
Which battery fits a Mazda Flair Wagon?
It depends on the model year and engine. Flooded JIS battery without i-stop, idle-stop EFB with i-stop or i-ELOOP. Send the year and a photo of the current battery label, and we match the size, terminal layout and technology before dispatch.
Where is the battery on a Mazda Flair Wagon?
For Mazda in general: Engine bay, left side, under the intake duct on most models. Boot on early MX-5. The exact position on your Mazda Flair Wagon can vary by generation, and the technician confirms it from the model year before starting.
Does a Mazda Flair Wagon need battery registration after a change?
For Mazda: i-stop cars need a battery management reset or relearn after fitting. If your Mazda Flair Wagon needs it, the technician brings the tool and does it on site after fitting.
Can you jump-start a Mazda Flair Wagon instead of replacing the battery?
Often, yes. If the battery is only discharged and tests healthy afterwards, a jump start is enough. If the test shows it can no longer hold charge, we explain the reading and can replace it on the spot.
