A battery monitoring sensor sits on the negative terminal, so jump leads and chargers go to the body earth point. After replacement the monitoring system should be reset with a diagnostic tool so charging matches the new battery. With a dead battery the electric boot release may not work, and the under-bonnet jump posts are used to wake the car first.
