Recovery is the difficult end of vehicle transport. The car has been in an accident, has sunk into soft sand, sits in a basement too low for a normal flatbed, or will not roll because a wheel is damaged or the gearbox is locked in park. Getting it out without adding damage takes the right truck and equipment.

How is recovery different from towing?

Towing is planned transport of a car that can roll and be loaded normally. Recovery deals with cars that cannot: crashed, stuck, locked or in a place a standard truck cannot reach. It needs extra equipment such as winches, skates and low-clearance vehicles, and usually more time on site.

Can you recover a car from basement parking?

Yes, in most cases. Tell us the height limit at the entrance and the parking level. A full-size flatbed often cannot enter, so a low-clearance vehicle or wheel skates bring the car up to street level, where it is loaded onto the flatbed.

My car is stuck in sand. What should I do?

Stop accelerating, because spinning wheels dig the car in deeper. Clear sand from in front of the tyres and lower the tyre pressure if you can re-inflate later. If it still will not move, send your location pin and photos and wait with the car.

Do I need a police report before recovery?

For an accident, yes. Report it to the police first and keep the report, since garages and insurance companies ask for it before repairing the car. For a breakdown, a car stuck in sand or one that simply will not start, no report is needed.
