How Jeep cars treat their batteries in the UAE

Battery technology

Jeeps with engine stop-start use an AGM main battery, and several models add a small AGM auxiliary battery that powers the electronics during restarts. Older Wrangler, Cherokee and Commander models run a single flooded battery. Compass and Renegade with stop-start use AGM or EFB, so we follow the label on the fitted battery.

Fitting and registration

Wrangler and Gladiator have the main battery under the bonnet, with the auxiliary battery tucked beneath it on stop-start versions, so the main one has to come out to reach it. Grand Cherokee from 2011 onward carries the battery under the front passenger seat, with jump posts under the bonnet. No dealer coding is normally needed, but the battery sensor must be reconnected and both batteries should be healthy for stop-start to work.

Does my Jeep Wrangler have two batteries?

If it is a recent model with engine stop-start, yes. There is a full-size main battery and a small auxiliary battery mounted beneath it. Older Wranglers have one. The auxiliary is easy to miss, and it is often the one that has failed when stop-start stops working.

Where is the battery on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

On models from 2011 it is under the front passenger seat, beneath a floor cover. You will not find it under the bonnet. For a jump start, use the positive post and earth stud in the engine bay. Earlier generations have a conventional under-bonnet battery.

Should both Wrangler batteries be replaced together?

Not always, but it is often practical. The two are connected while the car is parked, so a weak one drains the other, and the main battery has to come out to reach the auxiliary anyway. We test both and give you the results before you decide.

Can you reach my Jeep if the battery dies off-road?
