About the service

Wheel Alignment: how we handle it

Wheel alignment is the angle at which each wheel meets the road. Three angles matter: toe, camber and caster. A kerb strike, a deep pothole or a hard speed hump can move them by a small amount, and that is enough to make the car drift to one side or scrub the edge off a tyre in a few thousand kilometres.

The measurement needs a level alignment rack with sensors on all four wheels, so this is done in the workshop, not at the roadside. You can drive in, or we can collect the car. This page covers the check and adjustment only. If a bent arm or worn bush is found, that is a suspension repair and comes first.

Short answers to what drivers ask before and during a battery call-out.

What is the difference between alignment and balancing?

Alignment sets the angles of the wheels relative to the car and the road. Balancing corrects uneven weight around a wheel and tyre using small weights on the rim. A pull to one side is an alignment symptom. A steering wheel that shakes at highway speed is usually balancing.

How often should alignment be checked?

No fixed interval applies to every car. Have it checked when new tyres are fitted, after any steering or suspension repair, after a hard kerb or pothole impact, and whenever the car starts to pull or the tyres wear unevenly. Many drivers add a check once a year.

Can wheel alignment be done at my home?

No. Accurate readings need a level rack and calibrated sensors, and the adjustments are made from underneath the car. If you cannot bring the car to the workshop, we can collect it and return it once the alignment is done.

Will alignment fix a vibration in the steering wheel?

Usually not. Vibration at speed normally comes from an unbalanced wheel, a bent rim, a damaged tyre or a worn suspension part. The pre-check before alignment often shows the cause, and we will tell you if a different job is needed.
